Chapter Fourteen

Entreus didn’t think he’d been any more exhausted in his life than he was right now. Pleasantly exhausted and most thoroughly sated, which was a very dangerous position for him to be in.

“I shall leave the two of you alone.” Violette directed her next words to Silver. “I have preparations to attend to for your master.”

Silver did not respond. Entreus watched the dominia in her interaction with the trinex. Silver was now dressed, as was Entreus. The wet corset had been replaced with an even more flattening gold-and-purple one provided, and adjusted, by Violette’s servant. Violette wore a somewhat matching gown of gold silk shot through with purple thread. It seemed almost a claim of ownership in some way, he thought as he studied the two side by side, dressed in complementing colors. Entreus couldn’t see Silver’s expression, as her head was bowed.

But he saw the calculation in Violette’s expression as she waited for Silver to give rise to her statement. He surmised she wanted some reaction, perhaps of jealousy, from Silver. A long silence stretched out between them that seemed almost a battle for supremacy. He found himself admiring Silver’s restraint. Self-control was an attribute he valued highly—one he often wished Micah would exert more often.

Micah. Entreus found himself feeling guilty as he thought of his friend. Entreus had perhaps enjoyed these last hours more than he should have. Emotional baggage undermined such routine sexual negotiations. When he was finished here, Entreus was going to have to make certain Micah clearly understood the relationship that existed between them. If only Entreus understood it, that would make things much easier.

“I am certain, Dominia, that whatever the terms of the exchange between my master and you have met with his approval.” Silver’s words were measured, her tone velvety deep, her gaze appropriately locked onto the carpet at Violette’s feet.

The dominia laughed. “He has trained you well. But I must say, I do wonder at such perfect obedience, considering your history. I think I would like to see you lose control one day.”

“Dominia?”

“Your many modifications. There are few free women who would have adjusted to the situation you now find yourself in.”

Entreus had to wonder what thoughts were going through Silver’s mind. How much did she hide? Was there a deeply rooted rage simmering beneath the calm, collected façade? Or was she really as totally indoctrinated into her chattel position with the minister as what she appeared? He expected it was something he would find out in the next hour.

Violette directed her attention to Entreus. “I have fulfilled my side of the agreement. Before you leave, we will negotiate a time for you to complete payment.” Again, she turned to Silver. “Lel doesn’t appreciate you enough, chattel. You have hidden depths he has yet to penetrate. I have to ask myself why he does not breach your barriers—why he does not cultivate the more…aggressive…tendencies of your nature, as you’ve shown yourself capable of today. Nevertheless, perhaps another time we shall delve deeper to discover what lies beneath the surface.
